Hope For Children - DRC Report
A report from Ben, Hope For Children director, DR Congo.
Dear IRFF UK
We thank you very much for the courage and goodwill you continue to demonstrate for the HFC Center. As you know the children are always in the foster families where we visit them regularly and give them our support. The difficulties are many but we do our best to meet the basic needs. The Agricultural Project is progressing a little well. We apologise for the delay in the report on the Pastry project, there were some difficulties related to the opening documents, the rent for the place of sale... luckily the project is already operational. We made the first production yesterday and our products are already on the market (bread, donuts, cookies and cupcakes). We will use all profits to meet the needs of the children.
We are thinking of a plan to stop the agriculture project first because the areas where we do agriculture are now occupied by rebel groups. It became complicated with too many risks (kidnappings, rape, killings...). We must avoid risks, especially for volunteers. We will take all the money from the agricultural project and use it for the purchase of school supplies, but it will not be enough. We mobilise volunteers to do something. It is the opening of the school year and despite the stress the children have to go to school.
Thank you very much for the Financial Support you have provided to make the Pastry Project possible. In our small factory there are 5 volunteers (two girls and three boys) and for sale two volunteers (a girl and a boy). We will see how the project will progress to determine whether it will be necessary to add staff. If thanks to our profits we manage to meet the primary needs of the center, pay the rent and something monthly to these 7 volunteers (just a motivation) that will be perfect.
