Working together to support practical projects in Africa

Introduction

IRFF UK is grateful to the charitable and community organisations that have supported our work over the years.

Their contributions have helped practical projects continue in Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Sierra Leone and elsewhere, supporting education, school infrastructure, vocational training, healthcare, period-poverty work and community initiatives.

We value these relationships not only because of the financial support they provide, but because they connect people who want to make a practical difference in the lives of others.

A longstanding supporter of IRFF UK

FFWPU-UK and its regional communities

FFWPU UK and its regional communities have supported IRFF UK across two decades, contributing to projects in Uganda, Ghana, Sierra Leone and South Africa.

Their support has helped IRFF work with Destiny Junior School in Uganda, including school infrastructure and ongoing support for the children’s education. FFWPU communities have also contributed to a school project in Sierra Leone, vocational training and sewing-machine support in Ghana, and period-poverty work helping girls and young women access menstrual-health support.

Support has come from both the national organisation and local communities, including Bromley, East London, Scotland, the West Country, Birmingham, Wales and other regional groups.

  • 2019 to 2021: Contributions supported Destiny Junior School and the school’s perimeter wall.

Through this long relationship, FFWPU UK and its communities have helped IRFF continue practical work with children, girls and communities across Africa.

Thank you to FFWPU UK and its regional communities. We are grateful for the trust you have placed in IRFF UK and for the many people who have contributed through local communities over the years.‍

Charity supporter

WFWP South London

Since 2012, WFWP South London has supported IRFF UK through annual fundraising events and additional contributions. Its support has helped Destiny Junior School, infrastructure work and IRFF’s Mobile Medical Team in Uganda, as well as other general project work.

The relationship began with fundraising for infrastructure at Destiny School. Later contributions helped support the school’s running costs and other projects in Uganda.

We are grateful to the women who have organised and supported these events over the years, helping turn community fundraising into practical support for people in Uganda.

Charity supporter

Family Association for Peace, Colmenar Viejo, Madrid

In 2026, the Family Association for Peace in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, organised an event to support Destiny Junior School in Uganda.

The event brought people together around a shared interest in helping children access education and raised support for the school through IRFF UK.

We are grateful to the organisers and everyone who took part for choosing to support children’s education through IRFF UK.

Sister organisation

IRFF Sweden

IRFF Sweden is a sister IRFF organisation with which we share a common history and commitment to practical humanitarian work.

In 2024, IRFF Sweden contributed as a co-funder to both SHINE in South Africa and Destiny Junior School in Uganda.

The partnership also gave IRFF Sweden the opportunity to see how IRFF UK receives and shares reports from project teams. We are grateful for this practical expression of international cooperation and remain open to developing the relationship in the future.

What partner support has helped make possible

Support from charitable and community organisations has contributed to a range of practical projects, including:

  • education at Destiny Junior School in Uganda
  • school infrastructure and improvements
  • support for girls affected by period poverty
  • Menstrual Health and Hygiene education
  • vocational training in Ghana
  • healthcare through IRFF’s Mobile Medical Team
  • community support in South Africa
  • youth projects in Europe
  • earlier education and community projects in Sierra Leone

Many projects depend on contributions from several supporters over time. We therefore describe partner support as contributing to projects and helping work continue, rather than suggesting that one organisation alone created an entire outcome.

Support connected to real projects

Partner support is directed towards specific projects or general project work according to the purpose of each contribution.

IRFF UK receives reports from project teams and shares updates with supporters so that partners can see how their involvement is contributing to work on the ground.

Project-designated gifts are sent to the relevant project teams, while IRFF UK’s overheads are covered separately through other general income.

We aim to be clear about what support contributes to while recognising that lasting projects often depend on several donors and sources of income working together.

Track Record

Historical partners and supporters

Some organisations have supported IRFF UK through earlier projects or one-off contributions. Although these relationships may not represent current funding, they form an important part of IRFF’s history and have helped shape the work we continue today.

IRFF USA

IRFF USA was one of the earliest IRFF organisations established internationally.

In 2002, IRFF USA contributed towards youth projects in Europe. This support reflected the historic connection between IRFF organisations working in different countries.

We remain grateful for this contribution and for the wider international history shared by IRFF organisations.

Sunrise Africa Scotland

Sunrise Africa is a small charity connected with previous IRFF UK trustees and other supporters.

In 2021, Sunrise Africa contributed towards both Destiny Junior School and Kigulu Prime Academy in Uganda.

The two organisations maintain a friendly relationship based on a shared interest in practical support for communities in Africa.

WAIT UK and GirlChild/WAIT

WAIT UK was an important historical partner in IRFF UK’s work with young people in Africa.

Its collaboration included HIV-prevention education, youth clubs, vocational training and Menstrual Health and Hygiene education.

The work connected with WAIT in Uganda also included training older girls to make reusable sanitary pads. This history forms part of the background to the period-poverty work that continues through related activity in Uganda.

We are grateful for the contribution this partnership made to IRFF UK’s work with young people, girls and communities.
